Help the Jarrow March for the NHS in Leeds on 22nd August

Dear NHS supporters, brothers and sisters,

I am writing to request support from your organisation for the ‘999 Call for the NHS Peoples March’ from Jarrow to London taking place from 16th August to the 6th September.

The march follows the iconic route of the famous 1936 Jarrow Crusade of the unemployed. We plan to walk the 280 miles from the North East to Parliament to highlight the unprecedented harm to our NHS from privatisation and cuts and to symbolically unite the country from North to South to show this government and all the political parties what massive popular support is enjoyed by the NHS.

The full itinerary is available via the links below, but the march passes through our region via Harrogate, Leeds and Wakefield. We will be reaching Harrogate on the 21st, Leeds on the 22nd and Wakefield on the 23rd of August.

This march is already supported by a number of national and local organisations including trades unions, community and campaigning groups (GMB, Keep our NHS Public, National People’s Assembly & local trade union branches), however, we want to involve as many organisations as possible and we would love yours to join us and support.

An event of this type requires planning and resources. Marchers will need logistical support, meals and beds. We will need local help to organise rallies in the towns through which we pass and to ensure public participation and media coverage is as extensive as possible. Banners and placards are a must, and financial support is also needed.

Organisation of the march is well underway but we have arranged an important planning meeting in Leeds at 7pm on the 24th June in room 1 on the second floor of The Electric Press Building ( Carriageworks Theatre entrance) on Millennium Square, LS2 3AD.A representative from your organisation is warmly invited to attend this meeting.

If your organisation is able to agree to sponsor and support the march in any way could you please contact us to discuss details. We can be contacted via Marc Renwick on 07905327464 or email: hausotter76@gmail.com.

Financial contributions should be made payable to Leeds Keep Our NHS Public.

Yours Sincerely

Marc Renwick
