Leeds Tidal presents Reason Breeds Monsters and The Monkeywrenchers
Thursday 15th May 2014
A night of political unrest from the UK’s first agit-swing troupe and Leeds’s own hillbilly punk troublemakers.
Reason Breeds Monsters are the inventors of agit-swing — upbeat, jazz/folk tunes irreverently soaked in political agitation. Virtuostic performances on trumpet, violin, clarinet, bass+drums+guitar, grabbing ideas from all over the world, and sculpting them like Richard Dreyfuss with a fork and pile of mashed potato. From atonal jazz to big band horns, they chuck in anything that help call out the madness of ecocidal kleptocracy and neoliberal plutocracy. Reason Breeds Monsters make big words swing. The Monkeywrenchers are a group of rough and ready hillbilly hooligans forced off their land by bank foreclosure and getting even any way they can. They play stomping depression era music from the 30s, 70s and today.
The event is a fundraiser for Leeds Tidal, a campaigning group that works to support, coordinate and grow global activism on justice and the environment in Leeds.
Doors 8pm, admission £5 / £3 (students, anarchists and the unemployed)
