Leeds people will know and love Bassa Bassa, and Malban contains some of their members. They recently toured Palestine and at this event on Saturday (10.1.15) in Burley they will play some music, show some film and tell us about their experiences.
This article reveals how Israel has played its Gaza/Hamas card over the past ten years. Now that the USA is showing some small signs of pressurising the Israeli government, its manipulation of the kidnapping and murder of the three Jewish youths shows how desperate Netanyahu’s government has become. From the Palestine Solidarity Campaign:
All out on Saturday!
We have seen an incredible response to Israel’s assault on Gaza. We will be protesting outside the BBC HQ in London tonight and handing in a letter
containing 45,000 signatures. The letter calls on the BBC to reflect the reality of Gaza’s occupation and siege in its reporting. Signatories include Noam Chomsky, John Pilger and Ken Loach. Protests have taken place outside BBC studios around the country in the last few days.
54,800 people have emailed their MP
to tell them they must take action to end Israel’s war crimes.
And an unprecedented alliance of organisations has come together to take this message to both the British government and Israel’s representatives. Organisations working with Palestine Solidarity Campaign in the demonstration include Friends of Al Aqsa, Stop the War Coalition, British Muslim Initiative, Palestinian Forum of Britain, Muslim Association of Britain, Israeli Coalition Against House Demolitions-UK, War on Want, Jews for Justice for Palestinians, and unions Unite, Unison, PCS, RMT, TSSA, ASLEF, and the NUT. More organisations are continuing to add their support.
Just before the meeting to be addressed by a prominent Israeli anti-occupation activist, here’s a story from the BBC Magazine (18.6.14) which is both inspiring (the family’s resolve to refuse to be enemies) and depressing (the relentless oppression of Palestinians who live in ‘Area C’). Daniel Adamson, the writer, has lived and worked in the Middle East for many years and knows this family well. Some of us from Leeds Met University volunteered at their farm last summer. Our impressions coincided entirely with Daniel Adamson’s, who was our guide as we walked Abraham’s Path. More here
